Studio: a space to think, experiment, play, make, re-make, produce, deconstruct, collapse an idea and move on.
A place where disparate thoughts & ideas can be brought and given space to breath, and I hope shared in this blog. A place where any divisions & perceived hierarchy in my work are cast aside to reveal the process.

layering materials – into simple sketches is a way in which I can indulge my fascination & enjoyment of playing & making – at the same time as keep re-looking at material combinations with which to work
Drawing lines - with graphite & pencils helps to initiate an idea, but such marks are soon overlaid with materials that are ostensibly lines themselves, e.g. fibres, tubing & wire. Such materials enabling me to create 3D drawings.
By introducing strong directional light to the 3D drawings I am able to extend my physical lines with shadows, enabling a temporary ability to duplicate elements, continuing & projecting the drawing and idea over time.
Excited by my re discovery of how casting shadows adds to the drama of the line & objects, I have been playing with casting light through my wire dance costumes created for 'Traces’ a dance & theatrical theatre piece staged this autumn (see website).
The projected lines show the structure & texture of the pieces. I am now experimenting with ways to project Elizabethan dance notation through the costumes to form the basis of a line & shadow installation relating theatrically to the dances they were designed for.
